Maria Meier

Dr. Maria Meier

I currently substitute for the Chair of Physiological Psychology at the University of Bamberg. Before that, I worked at the Department of Psychology (Pruessner lab) of the University of Konstanz, Germany, and at the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Research Department of the University Psychiatric Clinics Basel (UPK), Switzerland (Schmid lab).

I study effects of stress on health and behavior, with a special focus on the regulatory interactions between stress and the metabolic system. My goal is to contribute to a deeper understanding of why stress-related disorders like depression often go hand in hand with a metabolic disruption like obesity or type 2 diabetes.

I am an open science enthusiast and, together with colleagues at the University of Konstanz and the Amsterdam UMC, I initiated the Task Force Neuroendocrinology Open Data Exchange Standard (NODES), which aims at developing a community-driven standard data structure for psychoneuroendocrinology to facilitate data sharing and reuse. NODES was awarded a YERUN Open Science Award.
